Magic Paintings
Magic Painting (Crayon resist) and a old time favourite with kids and a great idea for an "indoor day" activity.
Materials Required:
1. White paper
2. White wax crayon (a white candle can also be used as an alternative).
3. Paints - water soluble paints. Water them down a little so that they are thinner and easier to spread over the paper.
4. Large paintbrushes.
5. Rubbing Templates
Instructions
1. Draw or use rubbing plates to make patterns and pictures on the white paper using the white crayon. The white crayon cannot be easily seen on the white paper and this is what makes the magical effect when it is painted over and you can see the images clearly. Coloured crayons can also be used when doing crayon resist, but you don't get the magical effect of suddenly being able to see the hidden drawing,
2. Paint the watered-down paint over the paper and watch your drawing / rubbing magically become visible.
OTHER IDEAS:
"Secret Messages" can be written for your child to "uncover" by painting.
Use this method to make wrapping paper for presents.
