Decorative Easter Eggs (1)
These Beautiful Easter Decorations are made from polystrene foam eggs, brought from the local craft shop.
Materials Required:
1. Polystyrene foam eggs
2. Tissue paper (in chosen colour - this will be the base colour of the egg)
3. White glue
4. Paint brush
5. Gel pens
6. Kebab sticks (one for each egg)
7. Small container with a lid (for mixing white glue with water in)
8. Heavy based container (for standing the eggs on sticks in while the glue dries).
A used yoghurt or icecream container with something heavy in the bottom will do just as well.
9. Plasticine or blu tac or playdough (for holding the stick bases down)
Instructions:
1. Mount a foam egg onto a kebab stick, with the stick inserted into the rounded end (not the pointed end) of the egg.
NB:The reason for the kebab stick is that it allows you to work with the egg while holding the stick, and you don't have to touch the egg. The stick needs to be firmly inserted so that the egg does not rotate on the stick while you are working with it.
2. Tear your tissue paper into small pieces approximately 2cm x 2cm.
3. Put a small amount of white glue into your container and mix in some water (approximately half as much water as white glue).
4. Paint some glue onto the egg using the paintbruch, and then cover the area with a piece of tissue paper. Pat the tissue paper down with the paint brush.
NB: The tissue paper will leak colour when wet with the glue, this can stain!! Wear old clothes.
Continue adding the glue and tissue paper, slowly covering the whole of the egg apart from the small area where the kebab stick is inserted.
Make sure that the surface of the covered egg has a thin covering of white glue as this will seal the tissue paper when it dries.
NB: It is just like doing a paper mache covering of the egg with tissue paper.
5. Once the egg is covered, set it in the heavy based container to dry, securing the kebab stick with the plasticine / blu tac / playdough so that it will not fall out.
The watered down white glue can be kept in the jar with the lid on until it is required again.
6. Once dry, check the egg. Sometimes a second coating of tissue paper is required for a good colouring. If required, then apply a second coat, and dry.
7. Remove the kebab stick, and apply a layer of tissue paper over the insertion point, covering the hole. Dry.
8. Use gel pens to draw a pattern onto the eggs. I like a vine and flower pattern, but use your imagination and creativity and make your own design. White gel pens on darker colours look good, as do black gel pens on light coloured eggs.
